Steve Shapiro is a different kind of storm chaser. on June 29.

He and Tanchyk both suggested car owners make claims on any hail damage sooner rather than later.

"I just came in to deal with the major part of it," Shapiro said, adding there are a lot of cars in the area that sustained damage requiring more drastic repairs.

Jay Cardinale, at Bodies by Jay, said damage bills for vehicles he's fixed have been as high as $10,000.

Shapiro works for North American Paintless Dent Repair.

"This is a severe storm," Shapiro said as he worked on a damaged Honda on Tuesday at Bodies By Jay in Moreau. The paintless dent repair techniques allow him to remove medium and small hail dents without the need for conventional body work and painting.

He said he's seen cars that were totaled by the hail damage, particularly vehicles that were parked in downtown Lake George between 4 and 4:30 p. He said there are some in his field who travel the world, following hail storms, to ply their trade.

Tanchyk estimated his business had handled claims on hundreds of cars so far, and repairs had been scheduled out into next week as of Tuesday.

Jay Cardinale, who owns the auto repair shop, said he's seen his business double since last week's storm, which dropped golf-ball-sized hail in aspects of Lake George and Bolton.

Motorists on Quaker Road in Queensbury between Ridge Road and Dix Avenue are likely to see a sign indicating a hail damage claims center.

"We also have our own teams that move where the damage is," Tanchyk said Tuesday.

He said his business, which also has locations in Saratoga Springs, Troy and Colonie, has about a dozen paintless dent repair specialists helping out with repairs.
