Tesco scraps used-car sales venture
The rare failing for the supermarket giant is being blamed on an inability to secure sufficient good-quality stock. The new site promised discounts over retail prices on cars that were all independently RAC inspected and HPI history checked. Tesco launched into the used car business by buying a 25 per cent stake in existing online car supermarket Carsite and rebranding its website. Tesco stated at the time that its service would offer "direct access to thousands of great value, well maintained, independently checked used cars, without the hassle, stress or sales pressure typically associated with the industry. |
